DVD-RW backup

Hi all,
  My buddy and I are trying to set up a nightly backup for our
server.  His server has a DVD-RW in it,  so we are trying to
backup to the DVD-RW.  We are currently stuck on the DVD backup,
whenever we run the backup job, it is only using the amount of space a
CDRW can use.  Is there a way to modify this size parameter so
that we can utilize the significan size increase of backup disk?
