thanks for the reply. My cedar program will be rnning on a linux box only but w windows drive will be mapped to the box so that the backup files can be stored here. so my question is how to direct the cedar to do backup to the hdd(aka windows shared drive)

Well, if you can mount the Windows drive from your Linux box (either
by using some sort of share, or because the Windows drive is on the
same machine and you dual-boot), you can put the staging directory on
the Windows box.
Aside from that, I'm not sure what to tell you. Cedar Backup isn't
really intended to work on Windows systems, and it probably won't run
there.
